1. How can these workbooks be integrated into my existing curriculum?

The workbooks cover a range of topics that reinforce core concepts through varied exercises. Teachers can integrate these materials into daily lessons for review, practice, or extension activities. We also have teaching guides on our Free Resources pages. These guides offer guidance on how to best utilise our workbooks in the classroom or group tuition sessions, and include suggestions for supplementary activities that can enhance learning.
4. How do your workbooks support differentiated learning?
Each workbook includes a range of activities that target different abilities, allowing teachers to assign tasks based on individual student needs. This approach helps ensure that all students can work at an appropriate level and pace, promoting an inclusive learning environment.
5. How do you measure and track progress?
Each Harrison and York workbook is designed with innovative features to help teachers and children monitor and assess learning progress effectively. Recognising that education is not one-size-fits-all, Harrison and York do not employ rigid marking schemes, opting instead for flexibility and autonomy. Instead, we provide comment and review boxes at the end of each workbook, where children can use the key to measure their progress against the learning objectives independently or in collaboration with peers and educators.
-
- Self-Assessment Our workbooks include traffic light emoticons on each page, allowing children to self-assess their comfort with the material. Green indicates comfort, amber suggests mixed feelings about the lesson, and red shows that they need more support. This visual feedback system helps educators quickly gauge a child’s understanding and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Maths: Progress in maths is measured more quantitatively. Students earn marks for correct answers, making it clear where they stand in terms of mastering specific concepts. This objective measurement helps in providing precise feedback and identifying areas needing further reinforcement. Each workbook ends in word problems that highlight mastery.
- English: Due to the subjective nature of many English tasks, we provide answer keys and sample answers to support assessment. Although answers may vary, the keys offer guidance on what constitutes a good response. Additionally, each page has emoticons for students to express their feelings about their work—happy, unsure, or sad—adding another layer of self-assessment. Guidelines for discussion points and oral communication tasks are also provided to encourage deeper engagement and understanding. Each workbook ends in a self assessment with allocated marks, addressing all skills covered in the workbook’s learning objectives.
2. Comprehensive Feedback Opportunities: At the end of each section, self-assessment opportunities allow students to reflect on their learning through questions that have allocated marks.
3. Progress Tracking and Goal Setting: Each workbook includes a review sheet where children or educators can record their progress after completing the workbook This sheet not only serves as a record of what has been learned but also helps children and educators to set future learning targets. By reviewing past performances and current understanding, teachers can help students set realistic and challenging goals, promoting continuous improvement and motivation.
These methods ensure that both teachers and children have clear, actionable data on learning progress, facilitating a more targeted and effective educational experience. This approach empowers children to take an active role in their learning journey, promoting independence and deeper understanding.
6. What measures do you take to ensure the content is up-to-date and relevant?
Harrison and York continually review and update the content of our workbooks to ensure they remain current and relevant to modern educational standards. We regularly consult with educational experts and incorporate teacher feedback to make improvements. Updates are made to reflect changes in the national curriculum and the latest teaching best practices.
7. What professional development resources do you provide for teachers?
Harrison and York are committed to supporting teachers in their professional development. We offer a range of resources including workshops, webinars, and in-service training sessions designed to enhance teaching skills and integrate our workbooks effectively into teaching practices. 8. Our school or organisation is having an event — can we sell your books?
Of course! Harrison and York would be delighted to support your event by providing books for sale. We can supply our workbooks at a discount for such occasions, helping you offer valuable resources to your community. Please contact us to discuss how we can collaborate for your event.
9. I am a tutor, how can I use your books?
Harrison and York workbooks are ideally suited for a variety of tutoring setups, including small group sessions and individual support. Each child can work through their own book, starting with the ‘Learn’ pages to grasp lesson concepts—either through your instruction or independently. Follow up with the ‘Practice’ pages as homework to reinforce learning throughout the week. The ‘Consolidate’ pages can be completed as homework or at the start of your next session to help students reinforce and assess their understanding, reflect on what they’ve learned, and engage in peer review.
For remote or online tutoring, both the tutor and student should each have a copy of the workbook. This setup allows tutors to guide students effectively, even from a distance. Utilise digital platforms to communicate and share screens if needed, ensuring that each lesson is as interactive and engaging as face-to-face sessions.
In one-to-one tutoring, the focus can be highly personalised, addressing specific areas where the student may need additional help or advancing faster through areas where the student excels. This tailored approach helps maximise the student’s learning potential.
For differentiated group sessions, students can be grouped by similar ability levels based on our diagnostic test assessments. This allows tutors to assign workbooks that match each group’s learning stage, ensuring that all students are challenged appropriately without feeling overwhelmed.
Our workbooks are designed for flexibility, accommodating various tutoring styles and settings. For more detailed strategies and tips, please consult our teacher/tutor guide. This guide offers comprehensive support, helping you leverage our workbooks to their fullest potential, whether in-person or online.
10. Do you have any extrinsic reward systems?

To celebrate and recognise student achievements and progress, we provide downloadable certificates that teachers and tutors can award to students upon completion of sections or mastery of specific skills. These certificates are designed to boost student morale and encourage a continued enthusiasm for learning.
Additionally, our Teacher/Tutor guide outlines a detailed reward system that can be implemented to further incentivise students throughout their learning journey. This system includes guidelines on how to effectively use rewards to motivate and engage students, making learning a more enjoyable and rewarding experience.
