Our Story:
How we began
How we began
Meet Adam, an 8 year-old boy who struggled with homework. Uninspired by mainstream books, he found them dull and lacking in practice. With long, complex comprehensions and lengthy word problems, learning felt like a chore. But Adam’s mum, an English teacher, and his aunt, a Maths teacher, were determined to change that.
Adam’s story is not unique; at the tutoring centre they ran for over four years, they encountered many children like him, disengaged and often overlooked by mainstream supplementary materials. These resources typically lack sufficient reinforcement and necessitate gathering from multiple sources, resulting in fragmented learning experiences. This disjointed approach limits student engagement and hinders effective learning.
Adam’s mum and aunt utilised their network of teacher friends, a team of skilled British educators, with expertise in primary and secondary education, and embarked on a journey to revolutionise the workbook industry.
Together, they meticulously crafted a series of Maths and English integrated workbooks in a ‘worktext’ format using the unique ‘learn, practice, consolidate’ method filled with varied bite-sized activities. Through years of trial and refinement, these integrated workbooks proved their efficacy in engaging learners and making meaningful progress.
The Harrison & York integrated workbooks are designed to re-engage children like Adam, ensuring they not only learn but deeply understand and retain concepts in Maths and English, developing confident learners who find joy in learning.

Our Motivation & Solution
Driven by our own experiences as busy teachers and parents, we struggled to find comprehensive, engaging supplementary materials. Mainstream resources were often costly and unengaging, requiring multiple materials to cover a single concept, which led to fragmented learning.
In response, Harrison & York, in collaboration with educational experts, developed a series of affordable Maths and English integrated workbooks for children aged 4 -14. Utilising the ‘Learn, Practise, Consolidate’ method, rooted in educational research, our workbooks enhance long-term retention and understanding of new concepts, empowering both parents and children.

Our Impact
UK parents annually spend approximately £6 billion on tutors, with many finding school learning alone insufficient. In an environment where 2 in 3 parents feel compelled to supplement their children’s education, our integrated workbooks provide a valuable alternative.
Through rigorous trials, our workbooks have demonstrated remarkable effectiveness — 98% of participating children showed considerable improvement, earning unanimous approval from parents, home educators, teachers and tutors. Already making a significant impact, Harrison & York offers an affordable option that delivers value without compromising quality, contributing to raising national standards and supporting children’s supplementary education.
